Minister of Industry officially launched the operation of our cogenerators in Borkovany

In mid-October, we inaugurated the first project of cogeneration units connected directly to a gas well in Borkovany. The equipment, which is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, was visited by the Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček.

He appreciated that the CHP units are manufactured by the Czech company Gen Tec, which also uses Czech gas produced by MND.

"This project shows where the Czech energy sector should be heading, which needs projects of similar importance. The Czech energy sector is not just about building large nuclear units, but modernising the transmission system, investing in renewables, improving legislation. But all of this can only work if we have enough projects like this, which help us balance the whole system and which we need in the energy mix," said Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček.

The installation consists of six units with a total capacity of 3,000 kW, which are located in the neighbourhood and directly connected to the Borkovany II Mining Centre.

According to MND, the main source of natural gas at this centre is the Klobouky 3 well, currently the most productive gas well in the Czech Republic, with a depth of over 2,800 metres and a gas production of 70,000 cubic metres per day.

"Using our gas directly from the probes to control imbalances in the Czech power grid is one of the projects in which we see great potential. In recent years we have been looking for opportunities in promising segments of the 21st century energy sector," said Jana Hamršmídová, Director of Energy MND. MND and GENTEC CHP are already working on other similar projects, including deployment abroad in Ukraine.

MND is heading into the battery business. What will the BESS projects bring?

MND is preparing the largest investment of 2025 - a 12 MW battery storage facility in Breclav with a capacity of over 30 MWh. This project is our entry into an area that is fundamentally changing the energy industry. Battery storage provides grid stability, commercial flexibility and contributes to the transition to a more sustainable energy mix with a higher share of renewables. New legislation and falling battery prices are opening up new opportunities in the Czech Republic. MND wants to develop projects not only in our country but also in the more advanced markets in Germany. Battery flexibility will play a key role in balancing demand, managing price fluctuations and supporting the decarbonisation of the energy sector. We are starting with Breclav, with more projects to follow.

Artificial intelligence is already helping in MND

In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most discussed technological phenomena. For a long time now, it has not only been discussed in the context of science fiction films or scientific research institutes. Thanks to increasingly powerful computing and the availability of data, AI technologies have seen a huge boom in recent months. AI is now making real inroads into all aspects of our lives, from work to healthcare, science, education and entertainment.
